First popular music in Uganda was Lingala that was way back in the 80’s. In the 90’s, local artists started coming up and many popular Ugandan songs come. Kampala has since been a center of Ugandan music in recent years, some musicians in Uganda have developed their own style incorporating Swahili, English and local languages. They include Josè Chameleone, Ragga Dee, Rachael Magoola, Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine.
The music industry has become popular in Uganda and various new artists have come up. With the Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards) function which started in 2003, It marked the beginning of a new era in which artistes received recognition for their work. An inspiration for the young artists was made and thus leading to the growth of the Music industry.
UBC takes pride in being a broadcaster of the Ugandan Local Music both on Television and on the radio airways bringing out the best in local music. UBC shows very many talented individuals who have contributed greatly towards the development of the music industry. It shows informative and interactive shows, with entertainment news, current style, gossip, what's happening, and all spiced with contemporary music. A definite must watch for the youth.
