“You Are A True African Brother,” Museveni Praised For Supporting Somalia

President Yoweri Museveni was on Monday thanked for his support towards the people of Somalia by the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Muhamud during his visit at State House Entebbe.

“You are a true African brother. Thank you for standing with Somalia,” President Hassan Sheikh thanked President Museveni.

The Somali President praised Uganda for its contribution towards the stability of his country.

He was grateful to Uganda’s intervention to restore peace and security in Somalia.

Uganda is one of the African Countries that has contributed the biggest number of soldiers to Somalia under the umbrella of the African Mission to Somalia AMISOM to keep peace in the war torn Country.

However, the country has been threatened and attacked by the Somali Al-Shabaab militants to remove its forces in their country or be attacked.

In July 2010, several Ugandans were killed in two bomb blasts as people watched a screening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final match. The attacks left 74 people killed and 70 injured and the Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attacks as retaliation for Ugandan support for AMISOM.

Media quoted an unnamed al-Shabaab senior leader stating: “We have reached our objective. We killed many Christians in the enemy capital (Kampala).

However, since then, Ugandan security agencies have been on alert to prevent any more attacks.

Discussing with Museveni on Monday, President Hassan Sheikh also briefed him on the stabilization programme and challenges with the expansion areas.

Present at the meeting was Brigadier Charles Angina, and the Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura.
