Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei Wins 2nd Gold in Commonwealth Games

Long distance runner, Yougnster Joshua Kirui Cheptegei has won another Gold medal in the commonwealth games in Gold East, Australia.

The 21-year-old won the 10,000m race in Carrara stadium this afternoon after making the best time of 21:19.62m making the second fastest time in the event’s history and also the best record in the 25-lap race.

Other Medal Winners

Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed’s one second delay denied him a chance to bag the gold to settle for a silver in the second place while Kenya’s Rodger Kwemoi came in the third came in the third to take bronze in an absorbing, thrilling and rousing finale.

The Ugandan came round the final bend on the track while in the lead, putting out an impressive burst on the home after realizing Ahmed’s Marauding hot on his heels.

This 10,000m gold medal comes just five days after winning his first medal in the event, a gold in the Men’s 5,000m finals.

Uganda’s Medal Tally so far

Now Uganda has a total of five medals, including Cheptegei’s 2 golds, Stella Chesang’s gold and Mercyline Chelangat Bronze in the Women’s 10,000m final and Boxer Juma Miiro’s bronze in the men’s 46-49 kg category.
