Uganda Telecom has started a three week long initiative aimed at giving back to the Muslim fraternity in Uganda to show solidarity during the month of Ramadhan.

The company Friday kicked off the initiative by donating food supplies to Muslim communities in Ntinda and Kyaliwajala.

Among the items that Uganda Telecom gave to the worshippers at Masjid Salaam mosque were bags of rice, cooking oil, maize flour, sugar, salt and water which are considered vital for the health of people who are fasting.

While addressing the worshippers at Ntinda Masjid Salaam after Juma prayers, Arif Ameer, the Director of Marketing and Commercial Business Intelligence at Uganda Telecom said that as a proudly Ugandan Brand, the donations are to ensure that Muslims enjoy this year’s Ramadhan celebration without any constraints.

In appreciation, Sheikh Salim Mabirizi and Sheikh Sharif Lutaaya thanked Uganda Telecom for embracing the Ramadan spirit and called upon other individuals and institutions to join the celebrations spirit by sharing with the Muslim community in Uganda.

“We are indeed blessed to receive this donation from Uganda Telecom today. We will surely keep you in our prayers as you continue to serve our fellow brothers and sisters,” Sheikh Mabirizi said.

Uganda Telecom also visited the Kyaliwajala Mosque at which a similar donation was made to over 250 Muslim worshippers and is slated to donate to other mosques in and around the greater Kampala for the next two weeks.

Uganda Telecom will next week donate food supplies to Muslims in Zana, Kabowa, Kasubi, Kyengera and Kawempe.
