MTN Uganda registers 96% of it’s customers

By August 31st, MTN Uganda claims to have registered 96% of its 8.2 millions customers in the 18 months Sim card registration process leaving a total of 327,548 active customers yet to be registered.

A press release issued says that the remaining none registered numbers have been affected by the full deactivation process by Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) which was effective 1st September.

“We have been able to achieve this however there is some back log in terms of verification. Customers whose details are yet to be verified will not be disconnected. There will be no need for customers to buy new SIM cards but the existing MTN SIM cards will be reactivated after registration. We will make sure that all our customers are given equal opportunity to register and remain connected on MTN network”, said Anthony Katamba, MTN Uganda’s General Manager Corporate Services in the issues press release about the numbers registered.

All MTN’s customers who have completed the registration process are considered registered MTN clients and those who have been deactivated are requested to visit the telecom’s Customer care Service.

The deactivation which is supposed to affect incoming and outgoing voice, SMS, MMS and internet data services, has not being felt by the public.

Reports from social media platforms show that a number of unregistered sim cards are still activate and working well.

MTN Uganda says it is still carrying out verification of all the subscriber information received and appreciates patience form it all it customers as the process and paper is not easy.

“We would like to thank our regulator, the Uganda Communications Commission, the Ministry of ICT and all the other telecommunications operators who have all worked hard to make this exercise a success. We also thank our customers most importantly for responding to the call to get registered,” Katamba concluded.
