Ugandans Urged to Tap into their Abundant Wealth

Ugandans have been called upon to tap into the abundant wealth the country has and utilize it develop and grow the nation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Acacia Mall at Kisementi, Kamwokya in Kampala on Friday, President Yoweri Museveni said Uganda is endowed with rich resources but the people have failed to take advantage of them.

“Uganda has got a lot of wealth and the people need to have a vision to tap into it”, he said.

The President hailed Mr Amirali Karmali, the CEO of Mukwano Family which owns the Acacia Mall saying he is a true example of hard work.

He narrated that when the NRM came to power in 1986, the Mukwano Group of Companies had a total production of US$10 million. He was pleased to note that its capacity has since increased to US$500 million.

Museveni further commended the Acacia Mall CEO, Mr. Alykhan Karmali for promoting his family’s projects to create more wealth.

He also called on the Mukwano Family to help him attract more investors into the country with particular emphasis in the fruit processing sector.

The President revealed that Uganda has received good investors to process coffee adding that another group of investors was preparing to manufacture textiles from cotton.

President Museveni emphasized that the NRM Government’s policy was for industries to buy electricity at about 4 or 5 American Cents per unit.

He revealed that the Government was committed to ensure that manufacturers are provided with electricity at friendly rates so that they are able to compete globally.
