The engines are set to roar at the fifth leg of the Uganda National Rally Championship (NRC). The fixture promises to live to its billing as the toughest, domestic rally and the drivers have turned up in Hoima district for the showdown this weekend.

Touted as the most adventurous rally of the season with dozens of ‘fast and furious’ cars including Mitsubishi Lancers Evos, Subaru Impreza’s set to rev off from the Omukama of Bunyoro’s palace starting today (Saturday).

Jas Mangat, two times champion Ronald Ssebuguzi and defending champion Arthur Blick among others will battle it out for top honours. 2WD drivers Leila Mayanja, Ismail Otega, and Kitaka will be up against each other anticipating an improvement in their rankings.

Die hard rally fans will gather at Hoima grounds for the spectator stage and this will give the fans a chance to cheer their favourite drivers on.

Looking to close the leader’s (Jas Mangat) gap will be Ronald Ssebuguzi (85points). Ssebuguzi says that his car is in good condition and that he ideally started preparing the car soon as the Fort Portal rally ended after he failed to complete his stage with the finish line in sight.

“We can’t tell what exactly happened (in Fort Portal) but now our focus is on this (Kabalega rally) because with any slip-up, the championship is gone,” said Ssebuguzi in Hoima on Friday.

After this rally, Mangat will be remaining with just one rally to climax the season while his fellow competitors will be left with two rallies.
