President Yoweri Museveni is in Dallas, Texas to promote tourism and look for investors in the oil and gas industry.

The President arrived on Saturday in Dallas, for the Trade and Investment Forum. He will speak in Irving at the local Convention Center.

The aim of the visit is to promote tourism and look for investors for Uganda’s oil and gas industry.

“I will address the business community on several opportunities of investment in Uganda and meet the Ugandan community in Texas, before proceeding to New York for the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly,” Museveni said.

This comes few days after a Dallas-area hotel abruptly cancelled the stay of Museveni  as a way of protesting Uganda’s anti-gay policies.

On Wednesday morning, an LGBT news website, the Dallas Voice reported that a hotel in Dallas, Four Seasons in Irving cancelled the accommodations that Museveni and his first lady had booked.

Museveni is reported to have negotiated “with the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine to host his stay.”

When ThinkProgress reached out to the Four Seasons to confirm the news, the hotel’s Director of Marketing, Lance Peters, said he was “not able to comment on any guest that may or may not be here” due to guest privacy rules.

But the Gaylord Texan did confirm that Museveni and his entourage had reached out to the hotel for alternate lodging.
