World Tourism Day 2014 Celebrations To Take Place In Mbale

This year’s World Tourism Day celebrations will be held in Mbale district on 27th September.

The celebrations will focus on fostering awareness among communities on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic impact.

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is marketing and promoting agency and as part of its mandate, it is aggressively promoting domestic tourism across the country.

Uganda is this year pushing regions of the country to encourage equitable participation and visibility.

This year’s celebrations set to be held in the Eastern Region in Mbale town on Saturday September 27, at Mbale Stadium are under the theme; “Tourism and Community Development.”

Throughout this week, there will be several events in Mbale town and the stadium including exhibitions depicting the region’s culture, natural and historical attractions, heritage, dance, drama, music, leading to the climax on Saturday. The Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) will also be showcasing, from some of its animals like lions, leopards, ostriches, peacocks, monkeys, bushbucks, pythons and crocodiles.

The Minister for Tourism held a press conference today and revealed that a hot air balloon manned by Balloon Tours Limited, a local company, will start flights over Mbale area on Thursday through to Sunday this week.

“UTB has taken domestic tourism to a higher level by promoting regional clusters and has engaged various stake holders to propagate this initiative.”

UTB is currently promoting regional clusters as part of its domestic tourism strategy. In this region we have the most beautiful scenery, exciting caves, Wanale Hill, agro tourism (rice, coffee, and bee keeping), Sipi falls, and bull fighting, among others.
